My name is Amy, I’m a wife to my husband Kayden and a mom. I am committed to making my home a refuge for my family! For me a really big part of that is the good food I make for my family and I!
I am born and raised (and still live) in Utah. Although I’ve lived in the same state my whole life I’ve moved over 20 times in my 25 years. With all of the moving my mom never failed to make our house a home. I have lived in the north of Utah all except for college which was down south. Even with all of the moving my mom never failed to make our house a home. I am the middle child and love to talk to other middle children! I feel like we all have very similar world views. Throughout all my life I have always wanted to be a mom. I became a mom in 2021 right when life got a bit crazy for me, more on that later. I’m so happy to be a mom now, I can’t wait to have more children in the future!
I grew up with an extended family who had animals but never had them myself. My husband grew up most of his life having chickens, 105 at one time actually! He and I dream of owning property that will allow us to have a cow, some goats, chickens of course, and maybe some llamas or donkeys! On this blog I want to share how I try to live the simple farm life without the property. We live in a rural area but in an apartment building. We are surrounded by wonderful people who have the animals that we dream to have. We get raw milk and fresh eggs from our neighbors and we love them for it! We are striving to one day be the ones who can be sharing those things with others who don’t have them! For now we are so thankful for the people we can live vicariously through!
When you find my blog Hatching a Home, you may think that it’s all about chickens haha! But it is not… not yet anyway. I named this blog Hatching a Home 1) because my last name is Hatch and being remarried I feel like I get a second shot at making my house a home, and 2) because as a wife and mom I strive daily to serve my family and help them to know how much I love them!
I want to hatch this home into something beautiful, functional, and comforting. My husband and I dream of being the house that all our kids’ friends want to hang out at! I enjoy making delicious and healthy food that I know will nourish our bodies and I want to share that with you. Having a toddler doesn’t always make that easy but I strive to make food that my whole family will love! I will be sharing from scratch meals, from sourdough english muffins, to the best brownies you’ll ever have! (I promise!) I know what I share will become fan favorites in your home!
Now here to the “more later” I mentioned. I met my first husband at college. We were married for a year when we became pregnant with our daughter. Sadly the marriage really started to fall apart from there. We got divorced when she was only 3 months old. So I spent two years as a single mom. It was a very challenging time but I’m also so grateful for it. I know I would not be the woman, wife, or mother I would be otherwise. I met my now husband on a dating app just under my one year mark of being divorced. We dated for a year which may seem short to some but for me it was a long time. I knew I needed to find someone who was not only a great husband but also a great father, and my husband one thousand percent fits the bill. He is amazing!
Having gone through a divorce has made me go into marriage with fire in my heart to be a better wife and mother. Part of what I want to share here is my story of going through two marriages and one child being born. I want to share what I would have done differently in all aspects of that. My hope in sharing this part of my life is that I can help lift the burden of any of my readers who may be going through the tragedy of divorce themselves. I want to be a light and hope that things will get better and that one day they will have the life they always dreamed of!
